Ser∙vice

/ˈsəːvɪs/
the action of helping or doing work for someone.

e.g.
Helping you to navigate the complexities of the patent system with clear, jargon-free advice.

Protecting your ideas

e.g.
patent drafting and prosecution; invention harvesting; IP audits and strategy

We can help you take your ideas and inventions and protect them as your intellectual property. Whether you’re a patent novice or an experienced inventor, we’ll guide you through the process of defining your invention, capturing that invention in a patent application, and filing it at a patent office to try to get your intellectual property protected.

If you don’t know which of your ideas might qualify for patent protection, or if anything you’ve been thinking about can be protected as intellectual property at all, then let’s have that conversation. Patent systems can be complicated, but we’ll take the time to break down the steps into what your options are, how to implement them, and why you might decide on a particular course of action. Identifying and mitigating risk

e.g.
freedom to operate work; validity opinions; patent portfolio analysis; oppositions; third party observations

Although you may decide that filing your own patent applications is not the right option for you, your competitors might have decided that it’s the best option for their business. That means that you could be at risk of infringing someone else’s patents - whether you’re aware of them or not. We can help you to find out what patents are out there that could affect your commercial activities, and - more importantly - what to do about them.

If you already know about an existing patent filing that is a concern, we can explore your options for what to do about it. A first step could be an assessment of the validity of the patent or patent application, optionally followed by taking action to either prevent the patent being granted or to have it revoked. Alternatively, we can advise you on the potential for designing around the scope of a third party patent, or the possibility of a more commercial solution, such as licensing. Contact us to discuss your options.

Fractional IP counsel

e.g.
virtual in house attorney; commercialisation advice; licensing; portfolio management; IP training and education

If your business is at the stage of needing regular IP support, but not to the point of having a full time employee dedicated to that role, then there are a number of ways in which we can support you.

We have first-hand experience of working in house at a corporate IP department, and understand that every decision to do with patents has to align with your company’s business plan and overall strategy. If you need to temporarily or permanently outsource some of your work from your IP department, we can help you with this.
